Our Mission.

The mission of the Free Black University is to help the world radically imagine. We want to support people in going beyond the known and ‘possible’ to activate the world changers and shapers of the future. Our unique approach to this is through programmes of radical study which support participants in empowerment through recognising themselves as not just the consumers of knowledge but the producers of it. We begin from an ethos of everything that is in the world as we know it today was created in the imagination of a few people, right down to the philosophical principles that underpin our relationship to truth and possibility. From this, we support people in imagining different futures and recognising that we can create the worlds we desire when we collectively imagine anew.

How?

Since our establishment in 2020 we have focused on moving from vision of liberated education for all, a space in which education can feel freeing and liberating with the function of imagining and creating a better world. We recognise the importance of building slowly so that the work we do can be intentional and lasting. From this, we have designed the Imagination Labs as our first course wherein we will work with participants to create knowledge in community. It is from this space that we will develop our journal and podcast because we want to explore what knowledge is possible not only when we locate radical thinkers to share on our platform but when knowledge is intentionally created and explored in a community setting that uses the pedagogical principles we have designed.
